Why Our Orders Dropped This Week (And the Gamification System That'll Fix Everything)
Inside our milestone notification system that turns retention into achievements, the Foreplay API hack that automates competitor analysis, and why playing the long game hurts in the short term
🔍 FUNNEL VISION
The hardest part about business is being able to manage the highs and lows.
There are a bunch of different techniques on how to do so.
But it's hard.
Especially when you have big goals, it's easy to pass by the small wins.
This week at Nutre we saw a little dip in orders.
Now, if you're just looking at the data alone, this might seem like not a good thing.
But if you really look at this for a long-term view, you understand that there was a change made that would have short-term effects, but in the long run should lead to a better customer experience and higher LTV.
I’m not sure what our decision will be.
It's hard to see numbers go down.
But we are playing a long term game.
So whenever you find yourself in a similar situation - make sure you are thinking what’s best in the long run.
Not cheap dopamine hits.
🥡 THIS WEEK'S FUNNEL FEED
We're building something that's going to be a game changer.
Custom app notifications that trigger after people hit certain order milestones.
Here's what we found in our data.
Once someone gets past four orders, they almost never cancel.
The retention rate is insane after that fourth purchase.
So we're basically gamifying the experience to get people to that magic number.
It's like a video game where you unlock achievements.
The psychology is simple.
People love progress bars and achievements.
It's the same reason you keep playing that stupid mobile game.
You want to see what happens next.
We're not being sneaky about it.
We're just making the journey to becoming a loyal customer more fun.
Instead of hoping people stick around, we're actively guiding them.
Think of it like a loyalty program but way more engaging.
The old way was just hoping people would naturally become repeat customers.
The new way is creating a clear path with rewards along the way.
If you're running any kind of subscription or repeat purchase business, you need to find your magic number.
That point where customers become sticky.
Then make getting there feel like an achievement worth pursuing.
🍱 THIS WEEK'S CONTENT BUFFET
These are some pieces of content that I felt inspired to write about.
"Natural CAC" = the cost Meta wants to charge you to acquire a customer.
Hit this number, and Meta will give you nearly infinite scale.
Raise budget 100% → CAC only rises ~10%. For subscription brands, the game is finding this number; then scaling into it.
Trying to

I’ve talked about CAC before.
It’s how much you have to spend to get someone to buy your stuff.
People obsess over it.
And they should.
But when it comes to Meta Ads - there’s a “Natural CAC.”
People think they can outsmart Meta but they can’t.
Maybe you can beat them by a bit but not much.
The real game is what the tweet says.
Find your “Natural CAC,” and then model out your business on that.
Increase LTV and AOV.
That’s the game.
Here's the mission:
1) Make something of yourself.
2) Marry well.
3) Raise the next generation. It's hard, but why shouldn't it be?

This literally is the mission.

Goated entrepreneurs.
🧪 AI SECRET SAUCE
Tool/Prompt I'm Using: Foreplay's new API integration to build a custom bot that automatically pulls competitor ads, analyzes performance patterns, and generates AI-powered ad concepts based on proven successful campaigns in my industry.
Step 1: API Setup & Data Collection: • Connect to Foreplay's API to automatically pull competitor ads weekly • Set up filters for your industry, ad formats, and estimated performance metrics • Create categories for different ad types (video, carousel, static image, etc.) • Build a database that stores ad creative, copy, and performance indicators
Step 2: AI Analysis Framework:
Feed collected ads into Claude/ChatGPT with this prompt: "Analyze these 50 competitor ads and identify the top 5 psychological triggers, hooks, and messaging patterns that appear most frequently."
"Extract the specific language patterns, emotional triggers, and call-to-action strategies from the highest-performing ads."
"Identify gaps in competitor messaging that we could exploit with our positioning."
"Create 10 ad variations that combine the best elements from these campaigns while maintaining our brand voice."
Step 3: Creative Generation & Testing: • Use AI insights to inform creative briefs for your design team • Generate multiple ad concept variations based on identified winning patterns • Test AI-generated concepts against manually created ads to measure performance • Continuously feed new competitor data back into the system for pattern evolution • Create ad template libraries based on consistently successful competitor approaches
How to use this approach: • Start by manually collecting 20-30 high-performing competitor ads if you don't have API access • Focus on understanding the psychology behind successful ads, not just copying creative elements • Use pattern analysis to inform your creative strategy rather than direct copying • Test AI-generated insights against your current ad performance to validate improvements
Pro tip: Add this instruction for deeper competitive intelligence: "Beyond analyzing current ads, identify seasonal patterns, promotional cycles, and messaging evolution over time. This reveals not just what works, but when specific approaches work best and how competitors adapt their strategies throughout the year."
🍽️ WHAT'S COOKING
Working on some pretty crazy AI for Nutre that's going to revolutionize the meal delivery space.
